A new deck comes down to two decisions. We make both easier.
Finding a builder you can trust. You post online, get six names, and can't tell the craftsman from the guy with a truck and a website. Three bids, three different stories, and you're the one carrying the risk if you pick wrong.
Picking a material you won't regret. Wood looks great for one season, then it's yours to babysit: sanding, staining, sealing, splinters. There are better options now, and we'll show you the one worth the money.
We solve both. That's the whole point of this page.

We're not a deck company. We're the yard the deck companies buy from.
That's an advantage you can't get anywhere else. For decades we've watched crews come through our gates every week. We see who orders carefully and who guesses. We see whose jobs go smoothly and whose come back. We know which builders answer the phone, and stand behind their name.
So when you come to us, you're not getting a name off a list. You're getting a builder we've done business with for years and would send to our own homes. If the first fit isn't right, or you just want a second bid to compare, tell us. We'll line up another. That's the benefit of starting with the yard instead of a single contractor.

A deck you enjoy instead of maintain
Here's the honest pitch for Fiberon: it gives you the look of real wood without a single weekend lost to upkeep.
- Best-in-class fire-rated decking. The largest selection of fire-rated deck boards available, with options for every budget — affordable through premium, without compromising on safety.
- Unmatched selection. Over 20 fire-rated color options.
- Sustainable and durable. Composite polyethylene decking crafted from up to 94% recycled materials, engineered for longevity.
- WUI-compliant decking. Meets SFM 12-7A-4A standards for Wildland-Urban Interface construction requirements.
A 50-year warranty is only as good as the install
Fiberon backs its decking with some of the best warranties in the business. Lifetime structural coverage on several lines, up to 50 years on stain and fade.
Those warranties depend on the deck being built to Fiberon's spec: board spacing, joist spacing, fasteners, ventilation. Every builder we refer you to knows that spec and builds to it. That's the other half of what you're buying.
A small selection of our colors and textures
Availability of certain materials varies by area.
- No sanding, staining, or sealing. Ever
- Won't splinter, warp, or rot
- Holds its color, warranty-backed

How a builder earns a spot on our list
We don't keep a directory. We keep a short list.
Most of the builders we recommend have been buying from this yard for more than twenty years. That's not a marketing number, it's how long we've been watching them work. We know who measures twice. We know who pulls the permit. We know whose customers call back happy.
Every builder we send you is licensed, bonded, and insured, and we check it. They build to code and to spec, because that's the standard that comes with a Wayside referral. And when something needs fixing, they fix it.
If anything ever goes sideways, you've got us. We're not going anywhere.
A builder can lose their spot on this list. That's what keeps it worth something.

What does a deck like this cost?
Honest answer: it depends on size, height, railing, and what your yard looks like. Anyone who quotes you a number before seeing the space is guessing.
But you deserve a ballpark before you spend fifteen minutes on the phone. Most Fiberon decks around Sacramento run $50 to $65 per square foot installed. For a 500 square foot deck, that's roughly $25,000 to $32,500.
Composite costs more up front than wood and less over twenty years, once you count the stain, the sealer, and the weekends. On the call we'll narrow that range for a deck your size.

A yard named after a street
- Founded
- 1967. Jim McVey cashed in two insurance bonds for $15,000 and opened the yard
- The name
- Vi McVey named it after the street they lived on: Wayside Lane
- Generations
- Three. Same family, same name on the building
- Experience
- More than 150 years combined across the team
When Jim died suddenly, his 19-year-old son, also Jim, left college and took over. That was over fifty years ago. We're on the third generation now, still family-owned, still in Rancho Cordova off Highway 50 near Folsom and Sunrise. We tell you this because you're about to trust us with a recommendation. Our name has been on that building for three generations. We're not going to hand you to someone who'd put a dent in it.
Questions we hear every week
Is the consultation really free?
Yes. It starts with a 15-minute call at a time you pick — no charge, no obligation. If you want someone out to see the space after that, we'll set it up.
Can I come see the material at the yard?
You're welcome to. Most people start with the call, then have their builder bring samples out so they can see the colors against their actual house. That's what we'd recommend.
How much does a deck cost?
There's a fuller answer further up this page, with a real per-square-foot range for Fiberon decks around Sacramento. Where your project lands in that range depends on size, height, railing and stairs — we narrow it on the call, and your builder gives you a firm bid after seeing the space.
Can I get more than one bid?
Yes. Tell us and we'll connect you with another builder from our network to compare.
Do I have to use Fiberon?
No. The $500 credit is Fiberon-specific and applies to decks of 500 square feet or more, but your builder will help you find the right material either way.
